IC INFORMATION;
Characters Name: Barnaby Brooks, Jr.
Age: 25
Canon: Tiger & Bunny
Canon Point:
Species: human
Gender: male
Orientation:
Bisexual; Barnaby puts very little focus on actual sexuality or relationships throughout the entire series. While he's a flirt and very charismatic for the ladies, he's very reserved and spent more time focused on avenging his parents than he does any sort of romantic endeavors. As he managed to let go of the past, he became quite attached to his partner, Kotetsu, spending much of his free time with his one companion. While they were shown to be more of best friends than of romantic partners, Kotetsu is the closest person Barnaby has had in the series aside from his elder babysitter and his parents' old employer, Mr. Maverick (who was much like an uncle to him). Barnaby isn't particularly romantic, but he does have a certain attachment to Kotetsu. But because of his ease and comfort around women as well, it's not something that can be ruled out too easily.
All in all, he's mostly not particularly focused in romance, so both options are left open.

History:
wikipedia; T&B wikia; TVTropes

Barnaby was once a cheerful young boy who lived with his two, nice parents in a happy expensive white-collar neighborhood. He had a pretty sweet life. His parents had money and he had modest birthday parties and liked cute little robots. However, his calm and seemingly-normal life was thrown to the ground and shattered into a million pieces when a (supposed) jerkass named Jake Martinez from the Ouroboros organization decided to murder them in a ridiculous fire, leaving the poor child orphaned. All he managed to remember about the night was the symbol on the man's hand and the silhouette of aforementioned jerkass in the dark, flaming building.

So, of course, Barnaby had a new driving force, and that was to find out who murdered his parents and answer the #1 question, "Why?" Barnaby began collecting articles and news clippings of anything revolving around the murder or the incident, trying to understand the symbol he saw. Sometime afterward, he discovered his abilities, which made him a NEXT. Capable of increasing his strength and speed by 100 times for five minutes, Barnaby soon had the skill to access a whole new tier of investigations.

Being a NEXT allowed him to attend the Hero Academy of Sternbild, where he was a popular and gifted student. He managed to graduate with high marks and soon became a Hero himself, becoming the first hero to give his name to the public. In public, Barnaby said (and still says) this is because he disagrees with the 'old-fashioned' style of heroics, with the masks and hiding identities; but--recently considered secretly--Barnaby also used this as a bit of a sign to the jerkwads who killed his parents, as if to say "hey look I'm coming after you 8|".

Intimidating secret plans aside, Barnaby started his Hero duties by throwing himself into the open and saving our resident favorite old fart of a hero, Wild Tiger. Wild Tiger was being his typical Wild Tiger self, which included failing in his usual fail style, and he managed to get himself dropped from the sky, to which Barnaby graciously hopped forth and caught him, rescuing him from imminent spiky doom. Then, revealing his face--what a good-looking face--he managed to become an instant fangirl favorite. To make matters worse, he was soon assigned to that lame old fart as a partner. Or rather, the lame old fart was assigned to him, because Barnaby's character and charisma were just better for a television audience.

Thus sparked the beginning of a rather disgusting half-friendship of Barnaby Brooks Jr. and the not-so-Wild Tiger, Kotetsu T. Kaburagi. Kotetsu took the liberty of giving Barnaby the much-hated nickname of "Bunny-chan", often mocking or scowling at him for trying to be so perfect in front of a camera. However, Kotetsu also became the first person to see Barnaby lose his cool. The two often couldn't cooperate--still can't all that often, actually--but they both managed on a few occasions, like when they had to get rid of a bomb and couldn't diffuse it (some days, you just can't get rid of them) or when their cooperation made their suits deliver an extra special blow in 'Good Luck mode'. Kotetsu ended up becoming one of the first to learn about why Barnaby was so angry about his parents, and was also there when he learned about the symbol.

Appearance:
Barnaby is known for his celebrity looks. Tall with a slim yet well-built physique, Barnaby has clear skin and a smile which cues fangirl squeals. He sports a Farrah Fawcett-esque hairstyle consisting of bangs which reach his eyebrows, and longer, flowing locks which curl forward at his ears and flip out in the back. His eyes are of pale emerald, which hide behind frameless hexagonal glasses. He has a dreamy, pristine-white smile which is quite camera-worthy.

However, Barnaby's got some of the pissiest, most miserable facial expressions. He usually sports a scowl or a frown, or sometimes stupid obliviousness. More often than not, his eyes are narrowed, either in irritation or deep concentration when he works. Barnaby seldom smiles for people unless it's for publicity or a fan. His 'normal self' outside of the public eye is actually quite cranky. Posture-wise, he holds himself upright. Slouching is unsightly, and as a hero, he needs to always appear in top form. He has very sharp movements, a result of quick reflexes and hero training, and is often very tense due to stress.

Personality:
From the start, Barnaby Brooks Jr. looks like a young woman's dream: tall, good looks, kind smile, charming personality. And in many ways, Barnaby fits that mold almost perfectly. He's very friendly and courteous when it comes to dealing with the public and knowing what he should do. He knows how to handle being in the spotlight with a modest aura, and tends to accept praise and cheers with a smile and a polite thank you. He has no problem signing autographs and ruffling the hair of small children. When it comes to the Hero TV staff and 'acting normally', he puts on his most well-behaved, charismatic smile and does his best to appear cheerful. Part of the job is making the public love you, after all.

But not all is just fun and games in the life of Barnaby, celebrity hero. Barnaby is a hero, and that means helping others and working with people. He takes this job seriously enough to know that first and foremost, a hero has to protect the people. Be it another hero or a young child, Barnaby will easily put himself in harm's way to save another--within reason, of course. After all, his debut on the hero scene was saving his soon-to-be partner, Wild Tiger (or Kotetsu), and going after the troublesome culprit himself. He often thinks about strategies or ways to catch the villain in question with minimal damage to their surroundings, tending to take his job rather seriously when it comes to gathering points for the television program.

Unfortunately, part of Barnaby's hero act is also just for show. Part of the Hero TV system they work with offers points for citizens rescued and criminals captured. Early on, Kotetsu catches that Barnaby cares about the points, and he does, mostly because they give more popularity and incentive to the job. And although Barnaby thinks that most of the hero business is just an occupation, he's retired his distant, negative attitude and has finally come to accept the comraderie of the other heroes. He never cared for getting close to them, but after months of working with them and after first finding the 'murderer' of his parents, he finally opened up and they warmed up to him. He's only particularly close to one, his partner, Kotetsu, previously known as an 'Old Man', but he's quite nice to the others when he wants to be. He still seems to make sport of bothering Kotetsu to keep himself entertained, smirking after calling him an 'Old Man' and watching him get riled up after it, but it's done in good fun nowadays. The two have an odd partnership.

Frustration is usually what peels away his calm exterior and truly shows his emotions, the prime example being the one thing that frustrates Barnaby the most: his parents' death. Barnaby's parents were murdered before his eyes, his only memory of the culprit being this mark of the Ouroboros on the man's skin. Because of this, any time the symbol is mentioned or catches Barnaby's eye, he's quickly riled up. He becomes more violent towards the criminal who bears the tattoo, and his judgment takes a turn for the reckless. A criminal has been killed because Barnaby couldn't control his temper and let his guard down.

That temper of his is quite nasty. It came into play when he attacked a criminal with the Ouroboros tattoo, which led to said criminal's untimely death; he assumed Kotetsu couldn't be trusted when going up against Jake from Ouroboros, who had challenged all of the heroes in one-on-one fights. Hell, when brainwashed and thinking Kotetsu was a murderer, he launched out at Kotetsu, to kill instead of capture. He tries harder to control this, but it's only worked a bit more in recent months with his partner there to remind him to keep his cool.

He's also stubborn as hell and quite stand-offish, which may make or break him in the near future. He's not prone to listening to others when he's already got his mind set on something, and he tends to keep his distance from those who he doesn't trust or gets very testy with them if they try to pry too much. Not only that but this boy doesn't feel the ~need~ for medical treatment unless he's bleeding all over the place. Word of God says that, even after a very ridiculously violent battle in the near future, Barnaby just went home to sleep off bruises and whatnot instead of, you know, getting it treated. (All in all, Barnaby's got very moronic issues sometimes where a simple smack to the head could probably demonstrate all of your frustrations with some of the things he does.)

He has a difficult time connecting with people on an emotional basis a majority of the time. When the hero facade falls, one's left with a quiet, awkward, overly-polite Barnaby who acts on his own interests and what personally drives him. Part of his hero business was just to find out the murderer of his parents and to understand and stop those who bear the symbol, but outside of hero functions and gatherings, he's quite odd when around others. He doesn't spend time for fun social interactions, and he doesn't celebrate his birthday--in fact, he becomes angered when Kotetsu tries to plan a birthday surprise for him. He doesn't have hobbies, save for looking up clues, and while he's gotten better at having conversations with others, he's still all sorts of awkward and blunt. The only few individuals he's been able to connect with on a more emotional level, outside of Kotetsu, are his old maid and sitter, Samantha Taylor, and his surrogate father and head of HeroTV, Albert Maverick. Samantha had been around since Barnaby was little, and he often refers to her as an 'aunt'. When his parents were killed, she became his only true 'family' left, and he treasures her dearly. She's very sweet, and he tends to call her when he just needs a motherly, familiar face to speak to. She also bakes him a crumble cake for his birthday each year. Maverick too had been part of Barnaby's life before his parents died; when he was in the orphanage, he spent lots of time with Maverick, treating this man like a father figure. Maverick was one of the few people Barnaby truly confided in, to the point where Barnaby found himself in the older man's office whenever he's having a bad day and just needs advice; but after these two left his life, he was left with only his partner.

Kotetsu, of all the heroes, is Barnaby's idol, although he's only admitted this once. As the two grew together in their working partnership, Barnaby had come to rely on the older hero as a person with many years of experience and a very caring attitude. While he still grows annoyed when Kotetsu meddles too much, he's very grateful to have someone around who still checks up on him and allows him to confide in him. Barnaby's grown close to the other heroes as well, enough to hold conversations and go on outings with, but none will ever be as close to him as Kotetsu is.

He's finally worked out the mystery of his parents death, which has left him in an odd place mentally. While the Ouroboros symbol and everything still attached brings him pain and immediately points him to anger, he feels a sense of conclusion with it. Conclusion and loss all in one, actually: he's not sure where to take his life from here. Having become a hero just to find who murdered his parents, his sense of purpose is gone and his life is left open for him to decide. The decision doesn't come easily, as the only close person he has left is his partner who has a life to live of his own. Barnaby's still haunted by the memories of his past, but he's still wishing to move forward.

Abilities:
Barnaby's quick and strong. Due to his NEXT abilities, he's able to amplify his natural strength and speed by 100--but only for five minutes; therefore, he trains nearly daily in order to remain quick and fast on his feet, even when his powers aren't activated. He's very limber and flexible. His fighting style has to deal more with quick kicks than punches, often capable of backflips or spins in order to make his kicks more powerful. So even without the super-strength, he's able to easily carry a grown man in armor.

As for brains, he's smart and just as quick mentally. He's very apt at understanding new technology, capable of picking up the new specifics of his Hero suit upon the first explanation. Not to mention, he's extremely good at investigation. Having investigated his parents' murder to some of the finest, most hard-to-uncover details, he's got a very sharp eye and very nice investigation skills. From court dates to hidden files, Barnaby's found a way to get a ridiculous amount of information, which he's been searching for by himself since childhood. Barnaby's also very strategic. From the start of his hero duties, he planned strategies around not only stopping the criminal, but gaining the most points and exposure for HeroTV. He's very observant and watchful, which comes in handy when on a mission as he will keep an eye out for as many parties involved as possible, and he's quick to react to the first sign of danger.

First Person:
...it's a mirror. [oh little communication device, Barnaby is eyeing you and hard. He's fully aware that he's turned it on, and although he's still working on trying to properly grasp this device's functionality, his mind keeps returning to how silly this feels. So, after a long, long moment of him just fixing a stern glare at the device, he takes a breath.]

This is seriously the silliest thing...

Alright. Since... I'm assuming this is connected to the network... I've been told that apparently people from our... same 'worlds' are here? [Though he looks kind of disturbed at saying that word. Having never left Sternbild, it's odd to think there's not just the one earth he is used to.] They suggested I ask if anyone's seen my coworkers. I'm Barnaby Brooks, Jr. and I'm looking for a man by the name of Kotetsu Kaburagi. He's near my height, has an oddly-trimmed beard, and wears a hat and vest. ...or rather, anyone from Sternbild would do as well. If you've seen anyone who matches that description or know anyone from Sternbild, please let me know.

Thank you.

[Then, with one last stern look--face torn between disturbed and annoyed--he turns off his mirror. Click!]

Third Person:
So it was a bunny. Kotetsu's laughter behind him just reinforced the fact that this world had a horrendous sense of humor. It wasn't particularly horrendous, just a brown rabbit-like monster with golden tufts of fur the same shade of his hair, and it stared up at him with intense curiosity. Approximately a foot and a half, if that tall, it had long, floppy ears and bounced slightly as it stood before him.

According to the 'mother' inside, this little rabbit was his. And it, indeed, resembled the creature that held onto an annoying (yet somehow treasured) nickname of his.

Lips pursed, Barnaby knelt down before the little creature, reaching a hand out carefully. If it was rabid, he was going to abandon it and leave... It didn't look like it could be, but given the odd nature of the situation, there was always that chance. But... it really did look harmless. And if a simple mother would go out of her way to hand him a little creature thinking it was going to her child, Barnaby doubted she would hand him something overly dangerous. The small gesture seemed enough, as the rabbit hopped over, head nuzzling right into Barnaby's fingers. He scratched the little thing behind the ears, just sighing.

"So I guess you are mine, then," he mumbled, sounding almost defeated. As he wasn't sure where he was or what sort of NEXT ability might have caused it, the most he could do in this situation was go along with the occurrences before him. ...Even if that meant taking this stupid rabbit. Tuning out Kotetsu's spluttering and laughter behind him, he just continued to pet the creature, eyes glancing around to take in their surroundings. They were in a tiny village town, unknown and nowhere near Sternbild or Oriental Town, supposedly on some other world, with a backpack of ill-fitting supplies, a map, and some sort of outdated PDA. There really was no way this could have happened without some sort of NEXT... Sighing, Barnaby just shook his head. "This is ridiculous. Well... Let's try to find out who caused this."
